Illustrations of Endangered Australian Fauna
Initially the center of attention, the 2019-2020 Australian bushfires were quickly overshadowed by the Coronavirus pandemic. Seeing this, I was inspired to find a way to ensure that this devastation was not forgotten.
The Australian bushfires had burnt an estimated 18.6 million hectares (72,000 square miles), destroyed over 5,900 buildings, killed at least 34 people and roughly one billion animals. Many of Australia's most iconic fauna such as Koalas and Kangaroos are only found within Australia, and as a result Australia's biodiversity is at risk. This led me to illustrate some of Australia's most iconic yet vulnerable species.
Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus)
Gouldian finch (Erythrura gouldiae)
Tasmanian Devil (Sarcophilus harrisii)
Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas)
Christmas Island Hawk-Owl (Ninox natalis)
